Best beer I think I've ever had - have been visiting and staying in John Day my entire life, awesome to FINALLY have a consistent place to eat and drink. Have been telling all my friends about this place and the beer, would recommend this brewery to ANYONE.

Majorly surprised to find such a cool eatery/microbrewery in John Day. Locally handmade chairs and tables were cool and funky. The decour of the place was really welcoming, and our waitress was friendly and on the ball. We had their "Around the world" which is a sample of everything that was on their taps. Some homemade brews, some imported from the Northwest. Their beers aren't up to the Deshutes Brewery level, yet. Give them another year and I forsee a lot of awards hanging on their walls. My wife had the ruben, and I had the beef sliders. Both were absolutely excellent. I also had their soup of the day which was a salmon chowder, one of the best I've ever had. Obviously a place that the owners take great pride in, if I find myself in John Day again I'll definitely drop in.

Service was minimal. For a brewery one would think you would at least been informed about what was available. our server didn't even know what salad dressings were available. Our sandwiches were huge. Be sure to share. Food was OK.

New favorite in John Day. Hubby caught this place on the main drag. The beer is so-so but has potential. We still enjoyed our Mazelnut beer. The food was great. I had the pork street tacos which were amazing (mango salsa really perfected it). Kids had chicken quesadilla and hubby had roast beef sliders with side salad. Wish we could've tried the mac n- cheese but there were out.

Owners of 1188 please read the following review and use it as an opportunity to succeed. Okay John Day, everyone is excited about this brewery, but lets give some honest constructive feedback to help this restaurant improve and be a reason why people come to the area. I have been in 1188 five times and will overview my experiences. Food & Beer 3.5 stars: Good food and beer, it won't disappoint, but nothing to write home about. I hope the brewery gets running on all cylinders. Service 1 star. Every time I have visited 1188 I have not been welcomed into the restaurant. On three of the occasions I waited five minutes, maybe ten, and had to grab the menu myself. The wait staff does not prioritize correctly. Appetizers either come out with food or not at all. One time our table was served before a table that had been there before us. Another time our beer did not arrive unit 15 minutes into our meal after the food arrived. The kitchen gets backed up when busy, 2 hour wait one night. Expect 5-20 minutes for them to run your card and don't expect a thank you or have a good night as you leave. All of this can be fixed if you train your wait staff appropriately. If this restaurant was in a big city I would be surprised if it had a 3 star rating. This was a great find! The food was fabulous - not something I would have thought we would have found in John Day. The hummus was delicious, the side salads were green and fresh, and the cheddar soup was super tasty. We also had a sandwich that was better than anything we have found in any big city. If I could give this place six stars I would!

Stopped into this place because we were tired from riding our motorcycles all day and it just looked like a cool place from the outside. Well, the inside is even nicer. Fantastic craft beers and great food. Super nice waitresses as well. The whole place just has a great vibe and we had a good time.

Amazing beer, a great place to watch a game (especially March Madness) and friendly wait staff. We ordered the Black Oak Instigator and Rimrock Red Ale and loved both. 1188 is a can't miss.

This is da bomb period. They have good customer service, and the best chicken wings that ive ever had. The italian panini and sweet fries were also delicious.

Where ever I travel I'm always looking for a brewpub so I was pleasantly surprised to see a new brewpub in John Day. The beer is very good the styles are spot on and have good mouth feel. I also had some food and again was surprised. They have a caprese panini that was awesome along with a tasty salad with pomegranate vinaigrette in John Day, who would have thought. Trista our server was a hoot and kept my glass full. So next time you're in John Day come check them out.

A great find for such a small city. A quick walk from the Best Western hotel. We enjoyed the chicken wings and some salads. Nice beer selection but nothing to satisfy our love of Belgian Ales.

This place is just what John Day needed. Only reason they didn't get a fifth star is this wording in the sandwich section of the menu : "Served with soup, salad, seasoned and baked criss cut fries (regular or sweet potato), or slaw" To me, that says I get soup AND salad AND my choice of fries or slaw. I only got one. Had I known, I would have gotten the soup, but since I thought that was an automatic side, I said I wanted the sweet potato fries. I know now for next time (and there will be a next time), but to avoid disappointment, they really should rewrite the menu. Beer was pretty darn good and the sandwich was incredible - something you expect at a place in Bend or Portland, not John Day. Real food comes to the east!

Anyone thinking about opening brewery/ restaurant should take a business trip here to see how it's done. They don't have a ton of brews but the quality over quantity factor shines true with each sip. And I swear sitting on their stout, sturdy stools makes those sips taste even better. I was already sold on this place after 1 beer but then a sandwich only a true artist could assemble was placed before me. An absolute joy of a consumption experience. Thank you 1188

Greeted as I stepped through the door. The gentleman offered me samples of their local brews because I wasn't sure what I wanted. I think they have a brew for every pallet. I opted for the spinach salad which was plentiful and clean, but loaded with spinach and bleu. Followed with the house made cream of mushroom which was rich and flavorful. Also had the veggie panini which could have used a tiny bit more seasoning, but the veggies were crisp and welcoming.
